We have made the difficult decision to not groom our on-site trails for x-c skiing this winter and to not offer x-c ski equipment for rent. In previous years we groomed the trails for x-c skiing using attachments pulled by a snowmobile and on those days when Mother Nature provided sufficient snow and normal winter temperatures it was an enjoyable ski experience. But increasingly Mother Nature has not been kind to snow sports and the inconsistent snowfall and wide temperature swings that create melt/freeze cycles seem to now be more the rule than the exception. So, going forward we believe that x-c skiing is no longer a viable offering at Dexter’s Inn given the time, energy, and specialized equipment necessary to create an enjoyable surface as the temperature swings cause conditions to shift daily from powder to slush to icy crust. We wish the reality were different, but that is the reality we must accept.
All trails will be available for snowshoeing (or hiking if there is not sufficient snow to warrant snowshoes). We will continue to offer snowshoe rental. Fat tire biking and mountain biking will also be allowed on the trails for those who bring their own bike. Starting this winter dogs will be allowed on all trails.
Please see the “Snowshoe/Hike/Bike” page on our website for extensive information on how you can enjoy our on-site trails and for an alternative location to x-c ski near Dexter’s Inn. We hope to see you at Dexter’s Inn this winter.
