The
Main Inn was built in 1801 and now houses 10 rooms all with
private baths upstairs. The dining room, library, screened
porch and large family room reside downstairs. There are an
additional 7 rooms in the annex, and the Holly House Cottage
is a full sized, 2 bedroom home with full kitchen and living
room.
Years
ago families came to the grand hotels of this area to find
their summer respite among the mountains and lakes. Some had
summer estates prepared by their staff to receive them upon
arrival and provide for the daily necessities, making the
time spent at their sanctuary all the more pleasant and rejuvenating.
Today
Dexter's continues this proud tradition of innkeeping in the
same friendly and unassuming manner as has been its practice
for over 60 years. Large enough to serve most of your needs,
yet still small enough to welcome you as a guest in our home,
we believe that Dexter's embodies the essence of a true New
England Country Inn.
Meet Your Innkeeper, John Augustine
John, who grew up in Delaware, was attracted to Sunapee, New Hampshire, by the many wonderful recreational, cultural and educational opportunities the area offers. John's initial concerns about long, snowy winters were eased with the purchase of a snowblower and the beautiful sight of Dexter's after a fresh snowfall. Prior to becoming an innkeeper, John got his MBA from Harvard and spent many years working as a management consultant.
